Assigning a Subscription seat gives a user access to all available courses. Assigning an ALC (À La Carte) seat limits the user’s access to only the specific course(s) they are assigned to. This guide will walk you through how to assign users to the correct seat type, ensuring learners receive the intended level of access.
1. Assigning an ALC Seat
Navigate to the Users tab in your organization menu.
Navigate to the user you’d like to assign an ALC seat to.
Select the three-dot menu and select ‘Assign ALC’
Select the course you’d like to assign.
Set the course access expiration date (up to one year from the seat assignment date.
2. ALC-Assigned User Experience
After assigning a user to an ALC seat, they will only have access to the specific course(s) assigned and will not be able to access any other courses.
3. Assigning a Subscription Seat
Navigate to the Users tab in your organization menu.
Navigate to the user you’d like to assign a Subscription seat to.
Select the three-dot menu and select ‘Assign Seat’
After assigning a user to a Subscription seat, they will have full access to all GLSS courses for the duration of the seat assignment or while the subscription plan remains active.
However, if a user already has an active account, or is invited and registers an account that becomes active before a seat is manually assigned, they will automatically receive a subscription seat, given there’s one available.
3. Troubleshooting & FAQs
Q: Can I reassign a user from a Subscription seat to an ALC seat?
A: Yes. Simply go to the user’s three-dot menu, select ‘Unassign Seat,’ then choose ‘Assign ALC’ to give access to specific course(s).
Q: Can a user have both a subscription seat and an ALC seat at the same time?
A: No. A user can only have one seat type assigned at a time.
Q: Why is the “Assign ALC” option disabled (grayed out)?
A: The ‘Assign ALC’ option is only available when your organization has purchased À La Carte (ALC) seats. If a user already has a Subscription seat, or if your organization has not purchased any ALC seats, the ‘Assign ALC option’ will appear disabled.
Q: Can I reassign a subscription seat to a different user?
A: Yes. ALC and Subscription seats may be rotated between users as needed. For GLSS, once a user has completed their courses or certifications, you can unassign their seat and assign it to another user.
Q: Are there limits on how many users I can assign seats to?
A: Seat availability depends on your organization’s plan. You must have available Subscription or ALC seats to assign them to users.
Q: Can I assign multiple ALC courses to a single user?
A: Yes. You can assign multiple ALC courses to a user, but only one course can be assigned at a time. After assigning a course, you’ll be returned to the User Dashboard. To assign another course, simply repeat the steps: go to the user’s three-dot menu → select Assign ALC → choose the next course → set the expiration date. Each course will have its own expiration date.
Q: Will a user have course access if they’re not assigned to a Subscription or ALC seat?
A: No. The user’s account will be under a Free Trial, which provides access to only the first two modules of each course for 14 days.
